In itself the place of the future match, it is a confirmation of the European cooperation and furthermore the one between the UK and Germany. There are many occasions even from the Second World War to date that show the strong ties and cooperation between the two countries. Meanwhile there have been cases when Germany has promoted the use of the English language as an international mean of communication to improve it between nations of different languages in order to reduce conflict, like on the case of Sri Lanka.
The current importance of English stems above all from its role as the working language, the lingua franca of globalization. Just some statistics: English it is the official language for a third of the world’s population and the working language of half of the world’s population. There are more people in China learning English than speaking it in North America. The English language has been associated with the causes that have ultimately succeeded – democracy and capitalism.
The President of Germany on the 21st February 2013 has called for English to be made the language of the European Union as he appealed to the UK to stay in the EU. He continued by stating that “Dear English, Scots, Welsh, Northern Irish and new British citizens, we want to continue having you on board,” he said. “We need your experience as the oldest parliamentary democracy, we need your traditions, your sober-mindedness and your courage.”
It take courage and vision to make the herein statement from your President to the UK “You helped to save our Europe with your engagement in the second world war – it is also your Europe, and more Europe cannot mean a Europe without you. Only with you can we tackle the future.”
