The team from the Chamber led by the President had a meeting with Mrs Lindita Nikolla, Minister of Education on 15th October to discuss aspects of mutual interest and scope for collaboration. Discussion focused upon the Chamber’s involvement in and promotion of Cambridge ESOL and BULATS examinations in Albania. The experience of the Chamber in this respect was considerable and offered a basis for taking advantage of opportunities for taking examinations in real time with immediate feedback on the results. The timing of this was highly significant in view of Albania’s progression to full EU membership in the near future.
The meeting discussed other areas where the Chamber could contribute to meeting the Ministry’s objectives for the new Government programme. This included assistance for children who, for various reasons, are excluded from normal education, providing teacher training updating programmes and Community Colleges. The Chamber is currently researching how other countries have found solutions in addressing the problems of isolation of children and evaluating how these could be adapted for Albania. The possibility of implementing interactive learning through the means offered by computer technologies is also something we are considering.
Mrs Nikolla expressed a deep interest in these developments and complimented the Chamber on its work in promoting English for business and professional purposes. She pledged to work with the Chamber in seeking solutions to problems of mutual interest.
